How cardboard packaging transforms the way we eat?
The Swedish company Tetra Pak leads innovation in the industry with sustainable solutions, focused on meeting consumer needs for a healthier future.
According to the latest "Tetra Pak Index", presented in 2023, which identifies consumption trends in 10 countries (Brazil, China, Germany, India, Kenya, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States), two-thirds of respondents (66%) claim to pay more attention to what they eat and drink, a figure that increased compared to the 62% recorded in 2021.
With these data in view, the company Tetra Pak has focused its efforts on strengthening its standards, focusing on innovation, quality, and sustainability. An example of this is the long-life food carton packaging, Tetra Recart®, a solution designed to meet the needs of consumers, producers, and retail vendors.
Juan Pablo Pittaluga, Director of Marketing for Tetra Pak in the Southern Cone, points out that the trend towards healthier products continues to rise. We work with our clients to develop new recipes, aiming to include more natural ingredients, such as legumes and vegetables. In this regard, this format is reinventing food packaging with a practical, modern, and sustainable proposal.

This type of packaging allows storing food in cardboard containers and preserves properties without the need to use preservatives. Another benefit of this packaging is that it is easy to open and its different presentations offer the correct portion of food, avoiding waste.
Its practicality also allows for easier display of products on the shelves, optimizes their distribution through e-commerce channels, and permits more efficient storage in each household pantry. Additionally, the packaging is made from materials sourced from renewable sources and is fully recyclable.
Pittaluga comments that chefs and developers have identified a trend towards the combination of vegetable and animal proteins, as they offer many options for flavor enhancement. As for plant-based foods, especially when we talk about alternative proteins, we believe that there is still a long way to go, and it is the reason why, in the Food Development Centers of Tetra Recart® - located in Sweden, India, and Vietnam- the company is already working on innovating to create the foods of the future.
From the creation of new, healthier prepared foods to the development of natural and sustainable options, the company reinforces its commitment to the food and beverage industry, accompanying its customers to respond to consumer changes and drive innovation in the sector.
