Jobs, skills & inspiration: Sun Mahis! brings hope to Finland's youth
The Sun Mahis! event, targeted at young people, offers the perfect setting to look for a job, discover a career direction, and strengthen skills
Unemployment is increasing across all age groups in Southwest Finland, but the situation is particularly worrying for young people.
At the end of July, there were a total of 6,900 unemployed under the age of 30 in Southwest Finland, of whom 3,700 were under 25. The number of unemployed under-25s has grown by more than 16% in one year (*). In the current weak labor market situation, even young graduates are struggling to start their careers, and the risk of prolonged unemployment is increasing.
Given the circumstances, many young people are ready to look further afield. According to EURES expert Tomi Puranen, young people are increasingly interested in seeking work elsewhere in Europe. "Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden are currently the most popular destinations. Young people are looking for international experience, stronger language skills, and the stability that the domestic labor market does not always provide".
The Sun Mahis! event, targeted at young people, offers the perfect setting to look for a job, discover a career direction, and strengthen skills. The event will feature 40 exhibitors, including employers, educational organizations, and service providers. New this year is a showroom with inspiring talks about working life - for example, entrepreneurship and job searching beyond Finland’s borders.
Although AI is a hot topic in job hunting, the event focuses on the power of genuine encounters. "The impact of AI on job seeking is as transformative as the arrival of the internet in the early 2000s, but at Sun Mahis! there’s no need for algorithms. Here, real people and real opportunities meet," summarizes showroom host Eija Erlamo.
