Looking for a job in Turku? This might be a fast track onto the High Seas. No Finnish Required
On Friday, September 26, International Maritime Day Turku turns Linnankatu 72 into a one-stop dock for shipboard careersbuilt for internationals, run in English, and focused on real jobs rather than vague brochures.
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to work at sea; Turku’s maritime sector is about to show its cards. International Maritime Day Turku isn’t your average career fair. It’s a recruitment event engineered for people with international backgrounds: practical, English-first, and designed so you can talk directly to the companies doing the hiring.
The pitch is refreshingly simple: come in, learn what shipboard roles actually involve, understand the skills and certifications you’ll need, and meet the teams who can hire you. Organizers say that some of the required certificates can be obtained free of charge, and you’ll hear where and how to get them.
For anyone eyeing cargo shipping, oil tankers, or freight operations, this is where the pathway gets clear.
Two keynotes anchor the day. At 11:00, Lina Lundqvist dives into women in shipping and the outlook for international maritime work. At 13:00, Ozor Wincelaus offers hands-on guidance for newcomers navigating Finnish and European shipping—think "what to do Monday morning," not buzzword bingo.
The exhibitor lineup reads like a local who’s who: Aboa Mare, Traficom, Meriaura, Langh Ship, Finnlines, RABN Shipbrokers, and the Seafaring Employment Service, among others. Translation: you’re not collecting swag pens—you’re making eye contact with decision-makers.
Crucially, there’s no Finnish or Swedish requirement. Everything runs in English. And there’s no pre-registration. Just show up, ask smart questions, and chart your course.
