Isprotec: The startup that aids in the digital transformation of mining
Through advanced monitoring tools, predictive analysis, and digitization, the Antofagasta startup seeks to consolidate its presence in Chile, with hopes of internationalizing its tools in major mining countries such as Peru, Australia, and Canada.
With a focus on sustainability and digital transformation, the Chilean startup Isprotec, founded in 2016 in Antofagasta, is redefining the standards of technological innovation in the mining industry with advanced solutions that integrate advanced monitoring, predictive analytics, and digitization, optimizing processes such as mineral flotation to improve their recovery.
Through its flagship product GDM-X1, the company has positioned itself as a key player in the digital transformation of one of the most important productive sectors in Chile.
"The startup was born from the idea of being able to triangulate efforts between companies, universities, and government, taking advantage of preliminary research from institutions such as the Catholic University of the North (UCN) and the Technical University Federico Santa Maria (USM). This allowed us to strengthen our technological base and materialize our first product: the GDM-X1, which we managed to scale from its development phase in the lab, to a semi-industrial level, and then, with the financial and technical support received, to finalize the project towards a complete industrial development, consolidating its marketing in the mining market", comments Sergio Rojas, CEO and founder of Isprotec.
The GDM-X1 is the heart of the startup, a technological solution that integrates advanced monitoring capabilities, predictive analysis, and digitization. This tool allows mining companies to significantly improve mineral recovery and grade through more efficient flotation processes.
Among its most outstanding features are:
- Real-time optimization of flotation processes.
- Diagnosis and predictive correction of deviations, before they affect productivity.
- Complete integration with SCADA systems, DCS, and industrial networks.
- Automation and digitization of traditional processes.
Mining Nations
Isprotec's future vision is ambitious, with the long-term goal of establishing itself as a global leader in advanced technologies for mining. For now, they are looking to expand their solutions to Peru, another significant market within the region.
"We want to expand our technology portfolio by incorporating solutions based on artificial intelligence and big data analysis, focusing on addressing critical areas of mining. Likewise, we are in a prospecting phase in strategic markets where we have already obtained invention patents, such as in Mexico and the United States. Additionally, we are in the process of patent approval in Canada, Australia, and Peru, which reinforces our vision of global expansion," concludes Sergio Rojas.
Antofagasta: Innovation Hub.
In the development of the startup, the accelerator Aster, based in Antofagasta and backed by Escondida | BHP, has played a fundamental role according to comments from Isprotec, contributing not only with financing, but also with expert advice.
"Aster has provided specialized mentorship that has significantly contributed to strengthening the company's business model. One of the most outstanding achievements has been establishing strategic connections with key industry players, among which a significant collaboration with Minera Escondida stands out. This has allowed us to validate our technologies in one of the most important deposits in the world," says Sergio Rojas.
Recently, the startup was awarded at Expo Cobre 2024 in the category of "Technology, Innovation and Automation", which reaffirms its position as a leader in mining technological innovation.
