Mentor Delivers Key Strategies for Time Management from Neuroscience

The activity was led by María Esther Fernández, mentor of the 3IE Mentor Network of the USM, where she provided fundamental strategies for efficient time management.

It’s something we all want, but it’s always in short supply. It’s about time, whether it’s to be with our loved ones, to get better results at work, or to develop and enhance our businesses. However, there is a new way to manage it.

Within the framework of the Webinar Series of the 3IE Mentor Network of the Federico Santa María Technical University (USM), the meeting “Boost your productivity” was held via Zoom and free of charge.

María Esther Fernández, who is a communicator, public relations and coach with international certification by IlC International and Andrés Bello University, was in charge of this activity, in addition to being a member of the 3E-USM Mentoring Network.

But what was their goal? The mentor shared key strategies for managing time from neuroscience. He provided valuable insight into the importance of “brain plasticity” and how to use it to our advantage, as well as the difference between effective and efficient time management.

The professional explains that “neuroscience has to do with the executive functions of our brain, it teaches us to plan, to make decisions, to have self-control. These features are critical to effective time management. When we understand how the brain works in these areas, we can improve our ability to plan and accomplish tasks.”

Among the ideas that the mentor shared and deepened are the following:

  • Time is a non-renewable resource. It is important to learn to relate to it, being crucial when I relate well to each available space, so I can manage it from thought, consciousness and action.
  • Time management is a skill. It is vital to train them to meet responsibilities, deadlines and optimize resources, reduce costs, develop leadership skills and enhance teamwork. This underscores the importance of continuously training and refining it.
  • Neuroscience is concerned with generating a change for each context, therefore, using agile methodologies is part of the strategies that are required to be competent and to be able to adapt them to the specific need, thus improving productivity and efficiency.

Time & Productivity

According to María Esther Fernández, “addressing the issue of productivity is crucial for the development of any enterprise or company. Many times, entrepreneurs are faced with an overwhelming amount of tasks and responsibilities, and efficiently managing time and resources can mark that wonderful possibility between success and stagnation.”

He added that, “In addition, helping entrepreneurs improve their productivity not only improves their quality of life by reducing stress and workload, but we are also strengthening their businesses. A productive entrepreneur can get more done in less time. Which means more opportunities for growth, innovation and sustainable success.”

María Esther Fernández has extensive experience in the area of communications and consulting, where she has worked with multiple teams and professionals from different industries, to enhance all capacities, skills and abilities.

Currently, the professional works as a mentor for the 3IE-USM Mentoring Network, a coaching advisor and a speaker at the “Effective Communication and Teamwork” of the USM Seedbed, a program for the development of entrepreneurship of the university community promoted by innovation and the development of pioneering alliances throughout Chile.
