European cloud provider DataCrunch has raised a $64 million Series A round to accelerate its mission of becoming Europe’s first AI cloud hyperscaler. The company, which already powers AI workloads for startups, enterprises, research institutions, and public agencies, plans to expand its infrastructure while keeping operations sovereign, secure, and powered by 100% renewable energy.

The round was led by byFounders, Skaala, Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company, and Tesi, with participation from J12 Ventures and several angel investors. Debt financing was provided by Nordea, Armada Credit Partners, Danske Bank, Norion Bank, and LocalTapiola.

Closing Europe’s AI Sovereignty Gap

Europe’s reliance on US hyperscalers for cloud services continues to raise concerns over data security, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency. DataCrunch positions itself as a European alternative, offering infrastructure that is fully GDPR-compliant and outside the scope of the US Cloud Act.

"(...) Unlike foreign hyperscalers or crypto farms, DataCrunch is Finnish, with most of our 58 employees in Helsinki: Engineers driving advanced AI R&D in Finland; Teams building the local AI community through meetups and knowledge sharing", Ruben Bryon, Founder and CEO of DataCrunch, wrote on his LinkedIn account.

Scaling with Cutting-Edge Infrastructure

The new funding will support the deployment of NVIDIA Blackwell architecture systems (GB300 and B300) and the expansion of a new data center in Akaa, Finland. These investments aim to strengthen low-latency, sovereign infrastructure for companies across Europe.

DataCrunch has also submitted a proposal to the European Commission, supported by the Republic of Latvia, to build one of Europe’s first AI GigaFactories. Designed to host up to 100,000 accelerators, the facility would provide secure compute capacity within EU borders to support startups, SMEs, and research institutions.

In 2025 alone, DataCrunch has:

  • Become one of the first global providers to offer NVIDIA® HGX B200 with on-demand access.
  • Launched Instant Clusters with InfiniBandâ„¢ for distributed training.
  • Introduced Serverless Containers to scale inference workloads.
  • Achieved a bronze rating in SemiAnalysis’ GPU Cloud ClusterMAXâ„¢, matching Google Cloud Platform and outperforming over 100 providers.

Sustainable

All DataCrunch operations in Finland and Iceland run on 100% renewable energy, leveraging the region’s leadership in clean electricity and cooling efficiency. The company emphasizes scaling AI infrastructure without compromising environmental responsibility.

Upcoming features include:

  • Managed Kubernetes for streamlined cluster management.
  • Geographically distributed object storage to enhance data security and flexibility.
  • Managed inference endpoints optimized for language, audio, image, and video models.

With this latest funding, DataCrunch is setting the stage for Europe’s AI future—combining performance, sovereignty, and sustainability in one platform.
