OpenAI y NVIDIA anuncian una alianza estratégica para desplegar 10 gigavatios de sistemas NVIDIA, OpenAI y NVIDIA

What the OpenAINVIDIA strategic alliance means for deploying 10 GW of systems

To support the alliance, NVIDIA intends to invest up to 100 billion dollars in OpenAI, progressively, as each gigawatt is deployed.

A few days ago, NVIDIA announced that together with Intel they will develop AI infrastructure and personal computing products, meaning NVIDIA will invest 5 billion dollars in common shares of Intel. In this context, the announcement of the strategic alliance between OpenAI and NVIDIA is given. But what does this mean?

In the announcement made by technology companies, the letter of intent marks a historic alliance aimed at deploying at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems for OpenAI's next-generation AI infrastructure, which will enable training and running its next generation of models on the path to superintelligence.

Speaking to EntreprenerdEdmundo Casas, PhD in Artificial Intelligence, MSc, Electronic Civil Engineer, creator of Casas Lab and CEO, Founder and Director in Kauel, explains the implications of this announcement: "The alliance between both means bringing together the most advanced brain with the most powerful muscles of AI. In practice, this allows technology to advance faster and reach more industries".

"For example, in energy and mining, AI can analyze thousands of sensors in real time to prevent failures; in health care, it can help read medical images with greater accuracy; and in manufacturing, it can optimize production chains by reducing costs and errors. In simple terms, this translates into a leap in productivity: doing more in less time, with higher quality and safety," adds Casas.

FIRST PHASE FOR 2026

According to the announcement, to support this deployment, which includes data center capacity and power, NVIDIA intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, as new NVIDIA systems are incorporated. The first phase is scheduled to commence operation in the second half of 2026 using the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform.

""NVIDIA and OpenAI have been mutually boosting each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the great breakthrough of ChatGPT", says Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

"This investment and infrastructure alliance mark the next big leap: deploying 10 gigawatts to power the new era of intelligence," Huang added.

"Everything starts with computing," claims Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI. "The computing infrastructure will be the foundation of the future economy, and we will use what we are building with NVIDIA both to create new advancements in AI and to make them available to people and businesses on a large scale."

"We have worked closely with NVIDIA since the early days of OpenAI," comments Greg Brockman, co-founder and chairman of OpenAI. "We have used their platform to create AI systems that hundreds of millions of people use every day. We are excited to deploy 10 gigawatts of computing with NVIDIA to push the boundaries of intelligence and scale the benefits of this technology for everyone."

STRATEGIC PARTNERS

OpenAI will work with NVIDIA as a preferred strategic partner in computing and networking, within its AI factory growth plans. OpenAI and NVIDIA will collaborate on the co-optimization of their roadmaps: OpenAI's models and infrastructure software, and NVIDIA's hardware and software.

"OpenAI, creator of models such as ChatGPT, is a leader in the development of artificial intelligence capable of understanding and generating language, images, and code. NVIDIA, on the other hand, manufactures the most powerful processors and supercomputers in the world, which are the foundation for training and executing these models," explains Edmundo Casas, creator of Casas Lab and CEO, Founder and Director in Kauel.

"With this alliance, we take a decisive step towards the future, to build the infrastructure that will make possible the next era of superintelligence and ensure that the benefits of AI reach all of society," says Marcio Aguiar, director of the Enterprise division of NVIDIA for Latin America.

This alliance complements the deep work that OpenAI and NVIDIA are already doing with a wide network of collaborators, including Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners, focused on building the most advanced AI infrastructure in the world.

OpenAI has grown to surpass over 700 million weekly active users and has strong adoption among global businesses, small companies, and developers. This alliance will help OpenAI advance its mission to build a general artificial intelligence that benefits all of humanity.

NVIDIA and OpenAI expect to finalize the details of this new phase of strategic alliance in the coming weeks.
